Mission: To reduce poverty drastically in rural Africa through the use of ICTs for socio-economic development ICTs for Rural Africa (ICTRA) is an NGO that makes use of ICTs to develop rural communities. Poverty can be alleviated if the majority of the population is informed, uplifted and empowered. The majority population is found in the rural areas. People living in the cities have it all, be it access to latest information, access to clean water and sanitation, access to electricity, better education (schools & teachers), better health, better houses, fresh food etc. These inequalities can be leveled through supporting projects of this nature, which are earmarked for rural development.
The uniqueness of this organisation is that it endeavors to reach rural and other poor communities that would not have traditionally been included in similar or related projects. The organisation identifies vulnerable groups so that they are accommodated and supported in the information society. Having access to information through the Internet helps individuals and their communities better their lives. ICTs for Rural Africa is there to provide the skills to use a computer with more time spent on using the Internet as a source of information. If all people are well informed of opportunities around the world poverty will be reduced to zero. Information is knowledge and knowledge is power. The Internet has so much information on health issues, scholarships, job opportunities, export opportunities, access to funding, new farming methods, etc and it is our wish that every African gets access to this vital information. Help us build Rural Technology Parks. Through these structures rural people, rural schools, rural clinics and women cooperatives will have unlimited access to computer training and the internet. The Internet is a tool that rural people can use to leapfrog stages of development. |
