Rural Technology Parks PDF Print E-mail

Rural Technology Parks are used for training purposes, information access points and office space for emerging entrepreneurs. We train people within the vicinity of the Technology Park as ICT Trainers. The trainers train the locals under the supervision of the Project Co-ordinator. Besides Trainers each centre has an Information Officer whose duties are to produce a weekly Newsletter that is distributed to all people in that community. The Newsletter has information on opportunities for the youth, adults, farmers and news on issues around the country. In addition the Information Officer liases with the high schools in that community and presents different careers available for those completing their matric.

Equipment for each Centre
Each centre is equiped with 60 networked Laptops. Each training room has 20 Laptops, 1 printer, 1 scanner, one projector and a white board. A lot of ICT rural project collapse as a result of computers being stolen. Using portable computers like laptops, is far much safer as these can be locked in a strong room everyday after training, unlike Desktop computers that will required bigger space for storage and manpower to move them from one room to another.

The role of the Technology Park
Each centre is responsible for training locals from all walks of life on the e-literacy program. We have identified ICDL as a suitable program for this project. Besides the basics, the locals are given a chance to do intermediate and more advanced courses if interested. Depending on how busy or advanced the centre becomes e-learning programs on life skills will be introduced for those with skills to learn online.

In conclusion, the Technology Park exist to empower rural people through different Community Development Projects in order to, motivate them to start small businesses & market their products using ICTs, to increase employability among the youth, to better their health, to better their living conditions and their general well-being.
